I was delighted when Tim asked me to support the work of the King's Foundation: the new charitable fund-raising arm of the King's School, Gloucester.
Your ancient seat of learning has nestled for centuries in the lee of Gloucester Cathedral, providing generation upon generation of Cathedral Choristers and distinguished alumni who have traversed the Globe.
The School is now planning for the future and the foundation has begun its important task of raising finance for a series of School and community orientated academic creative and sporting facilities. Full details are to be found in the first edition of "The Foundationer".
I have been particularly drawn to the School's fine record of assisting communities other than its own both in Gloucestershire and much further afield. I have no doubt that many outside the immediate ambit of the King's School will benefit enormously from these new facilities when they are built. The School's future, enhanced capacity to offer more Scholarships and Bursaries to children in needy circumstances will also testify to your strongly developed appreciation of the "public good".
I know how much you will all wish to contribute financially and how hard everyone in your School family will work to bring these exciting projects to pass. I too look forward to playing my part as one of the Foundation's Patrons.
