For over four hundred and fifty years, the King's School has provided a distinctive education for its scholars. As part of the Cathedral Foundation, the School was responsible for the education of the choristers - a task which is still central to its ethos today. I consider it a privilege to be the forty-ninth Headmaster of this school, now educating over 500 boys and girls in the shadows of Gloucester Cathedral - probably the finest school chapel in the realm.
As the current custodian, I have tried to widen the horizons and raise the aspirations of the pupils, whilst being mindful of the School's historic mission. I am also aware of those benefactors, teachers and friends of The King's School who have helped over the years to underpin its development into a leading co-educational day school.
During the past decade or so, we have concentrated on moving forward the educational standing of the School whilst making the most of its historic buildings. With so much achieved, the staff and Governors feel that it is time to focus on improving the facilities available to the pupils. We also wish to increase the bursary and scholarship funds which enable talented young people to have the benefit of the all round education which King's provides. In launching The King's Foundation, we hope to reflect on our historic mission whilst providing the platform for further educational developments over the next decade.
